Message me if you have any questions, and tell me the type of pencil you have, the current eraser color, and approximate year if you know it. You can also take a picture of it with the cap off, and a picture of how the lead comes out of the end of the pencil ... then please send that to me. In 99% of the cases I can tell you what you need.
Tutorial:(0.5mm) From 1989 through 2010... There is a Steel Sleeve that protrudes out of the end of the pencil. When your pencil is out of lead, you remove the top, shake it, and keep pushing in and out on the eraser until the new piece of lead shows through the writing tip. Those erasers were originally Green, they are now White
or Rust. (all 3 colors are the same and will work). (Cross no longer make them in green, most use Rust now).
(If you have the plastic cartridge type #8405, the cartridge will snap right out of the middle of the pencil. If you run out of lead, you can add more underneath the rust eraser or white eraser. Again, you just snap it back in, and keep pressing in and out on the eraser, until the next piece of lead comes through the tip.
(0.5mm) Mechanical Pencil Refill & Eraser Cassette #8405 Contains: 12 leads & 1 eraser(These were made for the 0.5mm Mechanical pencil from about 1989 through 2010 Some come with packaging, some don't)
(0.7mm) The newest pencils are 0.7mm, the change happened around 2011, they have the protruding end again, which advances the new lead by clicking the eraser several times in and out. The eraser colors were originally Blue, and still are.
(0.9mm) Most of the earliest pencils from the beginning, up until the year 1988 were the type where you feed the lead in one piece at a time through the tip. That is an 0.9mm lead. It originally came, and still uses the pinkish or more (pink-orange) color the eraser is held in with a metal piece.
The above is just a guideline, because people can change erasers and put different colors in, if they fit. If you need help, please drop me a message, and I'm really good about getting back to you in the late afternoons and evenings. Thanks for shopping at Jerry's Pens.

*Please be aware if you make a false claim to eBay, you will be reported, and banned from any of our sites. If you have any problems, email us first, before opening a case. In most cases we can resolve it right away.
If you return "New Items" for any reason other than a defect, and they now have a scratch on them, or anything different than when we sent them to you; there will be a fee charged, and you will not get the full price back, because we will have to devalue them, and they can't be resold as "NEW"! The same goes for “Used Items”, they must be returned just as they were when sent out! If you are returning for what is deemed to be "NOT a good reason" IE.. buyers remorse, you found them cheaper elsewhere, you decided you didn't want them, you didn't know how to operate your item correctly, etc... there will be a 30% restocking fee charged. We will replace any defective item rather than giving a refund, if we have a replacement. If we don't have a replacement, We will issue credit for JerrysPens merchandise. The only things we absolutely don't allow returns on are refills. We do want you to be happy with your purchase; unfortunately there are a few people abusing eBay's rules and policies, so we had to put a stop to that.
